About Our Appointments

Your Initial Assessment

Our first meeting is a time to learn how things have gone in the past, how things are going, and ultimately how you’d like them to be going. We will discuss briefly about the basic concepts of talk therapy such as confidentiality, risks, and benefits. We will likely talk about relationships, family, work, or other aspects of your life. We may also go through a brief paper assessment. By the end of the first or second session; I want both of us to have a good idea of what we will be working on and what basic tools we will use to do this work.

A Typical Session

We usually talk about how things have gone during the week and focus on the things most important to you. We will figure out what tools work best and leave behind the things that don’t. I usually prefer to meet with clients weekly at first. This gives the the ability to continue to get to know each other and evaluate how effective the plan for treatment is. After that, we may progress to meeting once every other week, once a month, and then perhaps less. Our typical meeting time lasts between 40 and 50 minutes.

Termination

It is important to be mindful that you may achieve your treatment goals. The final (or termination) session will review our time together and plan for a future without regular talk therapy.
